HTB Demonstration to the US EmbassyHTB calls for solidarity with Muslims of Iraq and Somalia against the continued American hubris London, UK, January 20 2007 – Over 1200 members of the Muslim community marched to the US embassy in a protest organised by Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain against the announced increase of US troops to Iraq and the recent US air strikes and intervention in Somalia. The protestors were addressed by speakers, including representatives of the Somali Community, who articulated in unison that the Islamic World needs an end to US interventions, energy inspired wars, puppet governments and western values forced by the barrel of a gun. Taji Mustafa [Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain Media representative], Abdullahi Jama [Somali community leader] and Muhammad Amin [Somali community leader] addressed the enormous problems, the death of civilians, and the turmoil the US inspired Ethiopian invasion of Somalia has caused. Muhammad Amin explained how death and destruction reigned upon innocent civilians – including nomads and their livestock as well as a wedding party - when the US bombed the south of the country. He passionately spoke of the hope and optimism the Union of Islamic Courts brought about when they replaced instability with stability. This instability has returned with the US installing its puppet government who rely upon the hated warlords that wreaked havoc across Somalia, killing and abusing for over a decade. Taji Mustafa exposed the propaganda that uses the ‘war on terror’ as an excuse for every atrocity and explained how western corporations have benefited from the destruction in Iraq and aim to benefit from Somalia. Demonstrators heard a moving testimony from Abu Abdullah who lives in Baghdad. The letter was sent especially for the demonstration and illustrated first hand how the US has turned Iraq into a blood bath. Abu Abdullah in his letter, Massoud Shadjareh [Islamic Human Rights Commission] and Maajid Nawaz [Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain] in their speeches all outlined practical actions the demonstrators could undertake in order to help their brothers and sisters in Somalia and Iraq. Abu Abdullah urged Muslims in Britain to be a voice for the oppressed and urged them never to be silent in advocating the truth about what is happening in Iraq. Massoud Shadjareh and Maajid Nawaz called for Muslim unity and an Islamic state to protect the Ummah. In particular Massoud Shadjareh said Muslims needed to stand against all forms of oppression in society, whilst Maajid Nawaz explained that a comprehensive solution – the Caliphate - was needed to address the multitude of problems in the Muslim world. He urged Muslims everywhere to join the noble work for the Caliphate, so that the dictatorships in the Muslim world can be replaced by a sincere leadership that cares for and protects its citizens from the colonial foreign policies of Bush and Blair.
